1. Choose a Clean Diet

Choosing a clean diet is the number one strategy for combatting the common cold. By following this plan, the immune system will be boosted and recover more quickly. A clean diet includes only eating real, whole foods – the way nature intended.

Choose fresh fruits and vegetables – staying away from canned and frozen.
Add plenty of natural herbs and spices to meals.
Include nuts and seeds in the diet.
Use olive oil, natural butter, ghee, or coconut oil in place of other fats.
Include fresh meats, unprocessed dairy, and eggs. Remember free-range and organic is best.
Stay away from processed foods which contain additives – eat as clean as possible.

2. Quality Sleep Repairs the Body Sleep

During sleep time, the body naturally repairs itself. Getting plenty of rest is important when it comes to staying well. When an individual gets plenty of sleep, the immune system is working to help ensure the body functions properly.

Avoid foods and drinks containing caffeine.
Limit or avoid alcohol in the evenings.
Eat dinner earlier in the evening to allow for optimal digestion.
Turn off the television and lights in the evening to relax before going to bed.

3. Our Bodies are Designed to Move

Staying active is important for the body to continue to function properly. Our bodies are designed for movement and without it, we don’t function at the highest possible level. Exercise regularly to oxygenate the blood, detox the body, and stimulate the bowels. A healthy immune system depends on movement on a regular basis.

Exercise earlier in the day, so it will not disrupt sleep patterns. If you are not feeling well, don’t push yourself – include more rest. Avoid over-exercising which increases stress hormone secretion in the body – this can damage the immune system.

4. Herbs & Supplements – Simple & Powerful

Adding herbs and natural supplements are a simple and powerful way to boost the immune system. This also naturally helps the body to fight the common cold and other viruses. Include herbs such as garlic, thyme, chili, and rosemary in the diet. High-quality health supplements can also be included such as zinc, Echinacea, vitamin C, probiotics, and olive leaf extract. Each of these have been extensively studied and found to help boost the immune system naturally.

5. Sun Exposure & Vitamin D

During the winter months, it is very common for individuals to become deficient in vitamin D. Taking time to “get out” in the sun regularly will help the body create this essential nutrient naturally. If needed, taking a high-quality vitamin D supplement will help. Including plenty of vitamin D, each day will help to fight off the common cold!
